Live beatmaking and finger drumming performance by Max DetaL’. “The Moving Finger Plays” is a live beatmaking set exploring the idea of antifatalism. The performance combines finger drumming, live sequencing and evolving loops inside a custom Ableton Live setup built around MIDI Dobrynya controllers. Music is shaped in real time through physical interaction with the controllers and the system behind them — forming rhythm, texture and structure moment by moment. The opening piece is inspired by the work of Dorothy Ashby and the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. This set also contains a short audio excerpt from the film “Shoot ’Em Up”.
