In the last lesson, we practice Ш, Щ, Ъ, Ь, Ы, Ю. These sounds are very important in Russian: 🔹 Ш — your lips are rounded, and your tongue is in the middle of the mouth. It is like English “sh”. 🔹 Щ — similar to Ш, but softer and longer. Say «sh» and after that your tongue goes toward to the front teeth. 🔹 Ы — start from the sound У, then relax your lips and smile slightly.Your tongue stays deep in the mouth. This sound is very unique in Russian. 🔹 Ь (soft sign) — it does not have its own sound. It makes the previous consonant softer. 🔹 Ъ (hard sign) — it also has no sound, but it separates sounds and keeps the consonant hard. 🔹 Ю — at the beginning of a word it sounds like “you”.After consonants, it also makes the consonant softer. Practice slowly, repeat often, and use the audio in your workbook as much as possible.
