The Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated on August 19th—a major feast. To encourage the faith of His disciples when they saw Him suffer, Jesus Christ revealed His divine glory to them. Not long before His Passion, Jesus Christ took three disciples—Peter, James, and John—and with them ascended a high mountain to pray. (According to ancient church tradition, this was the beautiful Mount Tabor, covered with lush vegetation from its base to its summit.) While the Savior prayed, the disciples fell asleep from exhaustion. When they awoke, they saw that Jesus Christ had been transfigured: His face shone like the sun, and His garments became white as snow and sparkling like light.
