An Introduction to the Work of Balthus (8/12)

During the Second World War, Balthus leaves the German-occupied Paris and moves to the countryside, to Champrovent in Savoye. There he creates his early landscape paintings. In this video, curator Raphaël Bouvier provides us with a closer look at one of these works, the painting “Paysage de Champrovent”, which is a good example to notice Balthus' reference to art history, escpecially the paintings of Nicolas Poussin from the 17th century.
