The Sibiryakov Expedition | Сибиряковская экспедиция - Geography Night Screening 2021

They had the choice of going on this expedition or going into exile. None of the Russian travellers dared to lead the trek. They had to work in a place where it was minus 60 degrees in winter and plus 40 degrees in summer. Only one man - a young gold mine millionaire - believed in the success of the expedition. The Sibiryakov expedition of 1894-1896 discovered Yakutia, a distant and mysterious land. It helped natives to acquire written language and made scientific discoveries with global impact. And for more than a hundred years the materials of this expedition were kept in the archives… The film is being screened as part of the Russian Geographical Society's Geography Night. On 4 and 5 June, there will be a marathon of 11 documentaries about the natural attractions of Russia's regions. The films will be available on the Russian House channel in London until the end of 2021.
